Install and use the Archibou Photos mobile app
Archibou Photos is the official Archibou Android app: it automatically backs up your photos and videos to your cloud hosted in France, in original quality. Gallery, place map and memories: everything is designed to help you find your photos easily.
The app is currently in closed beta (by invitation). It will soon be available on the Google Play Store.
Getting the app
If you have been invited to the beta, use the link received by e-mail to install the app on your Android phone.
First launch
- Open the app and swipe through the welcome screens
- Allow access to your photos and videos (required for backup)
- Log in with your Archibou e-mail and password
- Choose which albums to back up: the Camera album is preselected, add any other folders you want (screenshots, WhatsApp, etc.)
Automatic backup
- New photos and videos are detected and uploaded in the background, even when the app is closed
- Network: Wi-Fi only (recommended) or Wi-Fi and mobile data, in the backup settings
- Original quality: no compression, unlike Google Photos
- Your photos are stored in the /Photos folder of your cloud, organised by year and month
- Each photo shows its status: synced, pending, uploading or failed
The three tabs
- Gallery: all your photos — on your phone as well as already backed up — sorted by month, with file-name search
- Map: your geolocated photos on a map, to revisit your places and holidays at a glance
- Memories: "On this day", your photos from past years on the same date, with a morning notification (can be disabled)
Scanning a document
The scanner icon lets you photograph a document (invoice, letter, prescription): it is converted to PDF and stored in your cloud, just like your photos.
Offline
Even without a network connection, the photos on your phone remain available in the app. Backup resumes automatically once the connection is back.
What about iPhone?
The iOS app is on its way. Meanwhile, the Nextcloud app (from the App Store) remains compatible: connect to the https://archibou.cloud server with your Archibou credentials to access your files and enable photo backup.
